Election Day is almost upon us. Keep an eye on the local cable channels for the candidates forums. It's suppose to be airing right through Monday. Not all candidates participated. I'm not sure what the reasoning would be for not doing it. Especially for the open Selectmen seats. Seems to me it's almost your obligation to the town.
Anyway, the most important thing is to get out and vote. It's so important that everyone participates. As a town, we all need to understand, via the citizens will, which direction we want this town to head.
Please don't let apathy rule the day.
Get to the polls Monday and VOTE !!!

I'm told the cable spots will start this afternoon at 2pm and will run through Monday. I'm having a little brain cramp here but I want to say showing times are 10am, 2pm, 7pm & 10pm.
We just got rid of an absentee Selectman, do we really want another ? Maybe we should change from a 5 to 3 member board and be done with this all. At least we have 3 committed members right now … when’s the last time you can remember 5 ? I can’t ...
Dear Anonymous,
Could you clarify the point you are trying to make...just want to understand what you're saying.
I believe that anonymous is saying that in the day before the rush of new people moving to town we had a "flash in the pan" newbie (Doug Ash for us townies) who changed the board from a three member board to our current 5 member board. Over the past few years our boards have fallen below a full representation.
This has been talk for the last 6 months but it is too late now to enact this change.
I'm voting for someone who is going to have a conversation, ask questions and have a meeting consist of discussion rather than one person talking. It just seems like all of the conversation is taking place before they appear at the meetings.
Charlie Poulin seems to be the guy!
Dear Townie,
I think your post is a good one. I have sat on committee's where everything is talked about all day long via email. Then come meeting time, it's like everyone has forgotten how much of the day was wasted discussing the issues that we are going to discuss all over again. I'm with ya, air it out in front of everybody. More people should attend meetings. And then let's come here and discuss it. The citizens are the boss.
I do like the idea of a (5) member board though. It's much tougher to get (5) people on the same page about controversial issues. Debate is good.
And to be honest, the board just recently fell below (5) members.
I'm not sure what Charlie has to do with it !! What about Baker ? At least he's on record.
Get out an vote !!!

To "vote Poulin"...I'm very interested to understand what your issues are with the present BOS...what's the beef ?? "

Here is a copy of what I posted on the "other"site.
My Reason
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on March 29, 2007 - 21:06.
This Mr Baker is my reason why I dislike the current Board. Underhanded tactics one can only wonder what other sneaky moves they have done that have not been made public.
1.Con. comm. mess
2.Video(as shown above)
3.This
Sorry three strikes *** OUT!
I guess you could add to that the fact that Mr and Mrs McCutcheon Are allowed to have more than one Unregistered vehicle and other items on their property and get away with it. Mrs McCutcheon Chairwoman of the BOS and her husband the Former Chairman of the Conservation Commission should know better. This was brought up awhile ago and what has been done to rectify this problem? As I and others see it not a whole heck of alot.
So you see this is what "My beef" with the current board is, that they make rules but turn the cheek when one of their own bends or breaks them. I do thank them for one thing and that is getting rid of Tim Ryan that though does not make up for it.
Since there was not a candidates forum, I will ask my questions direct.
Mr Baker
Do you have a permit to run a business out of your home?
What are your feelings on the issues going on at the Mccutcheon property?
What would your first step to be to fix the problem at the McCutcheon property?
If It was another family or myself in this town tell me this, You as an elected official in the town of Millville Mr Baker what would your first step to fix this problem be?
What would your first step be to fixing the water problem at MES?
What are your feelings on the issues of Mrs Furno(if elected) having to step aside when dealing with issues of the fire Dept? Do you think she should?
Im hearing rumors of "getting rid" of the Fire Chief whats your stance on this?

These are my questions to you both. I have 2 Votes, I have decided on one give me a GOOD reason to cast my second one for either of you.
Hope I will read your replys before Election day, Im sure others will be waiting too!

The BOS is a joke and needs reform. I cant wait to see how much money was spent on personal vendettas!
I wish everyone in town had to live next door to the queen b. You could all watch her spend town money on personal vendetta's. I cant wait to see the final tally. P.S. clean up that pig sty.
Dear Townie,
I'll answer your questions, then I'm going to ask you one of my own..fair enough ??
1. Do you have a permit to run a business out of your home?
Answer - I do not run a business out of my house. My corporate address is in Webster.
2. What would your first step to be to fix the problem at the McCutcheon property?
Answer - I don't believe this is a Board of Selectmen issue. I think this is a Zoning Board issue. I'm pretty sure there is a process that needs to be followed concerning filing a report. I'm guesssing there is an appeal process if you feel the Zoning Board has not addressed your issue properly. If it gets in front of me, it will be dealt with by the rules/bylaws of Millville...I guarantee it.
3.What would your first step be to fixing the water problem at MES?
Answer - I have addressed this both here and on my cable access spot. Anybody who wants the facts can get them easily. I'm guessing you're just trying to stir the pot here.
4. What are your feelings on the issues of Mrs Furno(if elected) having to step aside when dealing with issues of the fire Dept? Do you think she should?
Answer - It has been stated numerous times that IF, a fire department issue came up, she would have to step aside from any vote.
5. Im hearing rumors of "getting rid" of the Fire Chief whats your stance on this?
Answer - I have sat and talked with Chief Mullaly many times. Personally I love the Chief. I'm hopeful that when an independent assessment is done of the fire department, Jack comes away unscathed. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what I feel about Chief Mullaly personally, it's how his department is run and the overall moral of his troops. If the Fire Dept. is run correctly, Chief Mullaly has nothing to worry about.
My question back at ya...do you think the citizens of Millville should base their vote on how many unregistered cars are parked at the McCutcheon property ?? Sounds like a very myopic and personal view. I'm guessing you have an ax to grind. An election should be a about the greater good.
This is great election day but why was only the 2 Canadates getting air time... I know now who I am voting for and I can tell you its not Miss Furno nor is it Mr. Baker.. With them in office why dont we start writing the jokes about our town now...
A couple of follow-up questions.
First off, the question is do you operate or do business out of your house, not where your "corporate" address is. For all we know that may be just a post office box, or empty building that acts as a location for who knows what - tax purposes etc. If you are doing work that is related to your business from your home, you need a permit.
Secondly, I would think that McCutcheon would like to keep her lock on being chairman, and also so she can continue to flaunt the town by-laws. Obviously her pals on the board now have turned blind eyes to her violations, yet have been tough on established businesses with valid Class II and Class III licenses (Didn't John Polny already prove this, at a significant cost to the Town?).
So it is obvious to even the most untrained eye that with McCutcheon supporting your candidacy, you are enabling her to violate the law.
Finally, gee what a ringing endorsement of the current Fire Chief. We are glad you love him, but with support so luke warm, we know that once elected, you will go along with the rest of the gang, and kick JJM to the curb, much like their actions of 2006.
Time to get Millville back!
I think what Anonymous was getting to was this: As an elected official, one is under extreme scrutiny at all times. As such, an elected official shouldn't be skirting any of the local "rules". How can you enforce the rules, when as an elected official you are breaking others? No one is above the law.
Karen:
Why are you not answering the questions on this or your personal thread? You do have internet access.....
This will factor into your success or failure at this bid.

Thank you both if it was in reference to the question I asked.
Anonymous April 1, 2007 8:18 AM
Yes it will, it looks like she wont have my vote. I will however check before I go to the polls tommorow.
Mr Baker
In your answere to #2 you say it is a zoning issue Correct me if I am wrong. Isnt it the BOS that made the bylaw of One unregistered vehicle?
#3. Wrong answere you dont accuse me of stirring the pot when I asked a legitimate question. A question that is going to ultimately decide my vote.
Well I have to say when I first read what you said "then I'm going to ask you one of my own..fair enough ??" I said to myself Im not running I DONT have to be the one answering questions, I will however answere.
"do you think the citizens of Millville should base their vote on how many unregistered cars are parked at the McCutcheon property ??" Yes, I do.
My view is very clear and wide. As for having an Ax no I dont have one to grind. I do have a vote that has been lost.
Dear Anonymous,
Let's be frank. It doesn't matter what I type or how I respond. You have made up your mind and that is your right. Your issue is personal in nature and it's with another family. I wish I had a dollar for how many times I have typed "I am for the same set of rules/by-laws for everyone" and "I'm for a level playing field".
Your comment "much like their actions of 2006"..I believe you're referring to the police situation. If you haven't figured out the necessity of that move, and still have the "blinders" on...your decision making process is clearly flawed. Your priorities are a mess. This isn't my opinion, this is fact. I truly believe you don't speak for any candidate with their permission. You are not doing anybody any favors.
Mr Baker
I have not made up my mind. As of this posting I still have one undecided vote. My "issue" is not of a personal nature. I just have very strong feelings that if you are going to make laws you have to live by the same laws you make. Just like in raising your children you dont tell them to live by one set of laws and break them yourself. It doesnt work that way.
I think you have me and another anonymous mixed up, I dont remember writting" much like their actions of 2006" I looked and dont see it. If you can tell me the post and time I will look at it.
As far as the Police situation I KNOW the necessity of the "move". I was in favor of Timmy Ryan getting the boot. I did say "You know what? I dont like the present board and nor do I like the former Chief so I guess that leaves me as a very unbiased person/citizen and Voter." I am not speaking for any candidate Im speaking for myself. I am looking for a reason to vote for you or one of the other two remaining candidates. My priorities are NOT a mess, I know exactly what I want for this town, My town. Im just looking for the right person to get it headed in that direction.
Good Luck tommorow.
6 above this comment. It's tough keeping the anonymous's straight...instead of posting as anonymous, come up with an "alias" so we can talk...
One set of rules for everyone...I'm a stickler on the rules. I don't like double standards. I have been singing that from the roof tops...!!
Dear "anonymous"
Why are you attacking the candidates? It sounds to me like you've already made up your mind on your votes.
If you know so much then why didn't you take out nomination papers? Oh, that's right...you have to hide behind "anonymous"...
And for your info, there weren't ANY phone call invitations made for the telecast...I would think that ALL the candidates would be closely watching the Millville channel "to keep up" with the Town.
Have you spoken with the other 2 candidates about your questions? You seem to be questioning only 2 of the candidates on this site...what about the other 2? Oh, that's right, they probably answer you on the other blog.
Either grow some & show your face, or shut up.
Hey "anonymous"
Im not "attacking" the candidates, like I said I DECIDED ON ONE VOTE. I still had one vote that I was not sure about. If you feel I was attacking the candidates thats your problem. I look at it as trying to find the answere for my decision. When you decide to run for public office you open yourself up for alot.
I never claimed to "know so much" that is why I asked the questions.
You ask"why didn't you take out nomination papers?" I didnt take out nomination papers because It wasnt the right time for me to make such a commitment. I would not want take on a responsibilty to only to have to excuse myself and not put my full attention and effort into it. Maybe another time.
As for your FYI, must have been the other anonymous that questioned about the telecast so I wont address that issue.
"Have you spoken with the other 2 candidates about your questions?" Yes, I have spoken with the other two candidates. From my understanding they dont visit either site so it would have been waisted to ask them on either site. So I spoke with them when they came "knocking".
You are funny! You might want to take your own advice " Either grow some & show your face, or shut up."
Congrats to Karin, Charlie and Sue.
