Its’ election time people ( not to be confused with the word natives ) …
I would like to give some advise to all the candidates running … ask yourself “Why am I running ?” Is it for the Town’s benefit or for your hidden agenda ? Has someone put you up to the task to be their puppet ? Why do I ask you say ? Its’ because all candidates owe this answer to the voters come April. We have had candidates and selectman in the past that did not ask themselves this basic question. Where are they now ? I’ll tell you where they are … they are long gone from the Board of Selectman.
Let’s look at some names : Dean, Desjardins, Gikas, Pare, and Dicks to name a few. Their agenda’s were quite visible to all, and even the Village Idiot could figure them out. Luckily, our current BOS has persevered them all to lead our Town into the future. Yes people, I’m giving them recognition instead of criticizing them. Unless you have walked in their shoes, I’m sure we won’t fully understand what they have gone thru to protect the Town … and maybe will never know. They have accomplished a lot and struggled through the budget crisis to keep us out of a Prop 2 ½ over-rides. Petrowicz, McCutcheon, and Savage have reversed what other’s couldn’t do … give the Town back to the people !
Let’s look at the new candidates ..
Mrs. Furno comes with much baggage … ties to the Fire Department and Mr. Gikas’s school of thought … hates the current Fire Chief and will have to step down on any Fire related issues … will she be there as much as Mr. Gikas was … or will she be paged during a BOS meeting to handle a calls as he was ?
Mr. Laura comes with the blessing of Mother Mary, and her need for retribution against our current BOS. (Aren’t we suppose to turn the other cheek? ) He helped build the police station and supports the previous Police Chief … which says a lot to what he believes in ! Come’on now Timmy … do you think your yard sign is the best thing for his campaign. He’s their appointed yes man just like Zorn and Desjardin were in years past .. at least they didn’t put Desjardin or Pare up again !
Mr. Poulin comes with his hatred of our BOS ( well just the Chair ) and is another pawn in the game. He ran with Smith and Demato building “quality” houses in the Town years before their reputation caught up with them. One would think he would learn his lesson building with them but no … he worked with our beloved Mr. Pare who stiffed him on thousands of dollars. Is this the candidate we want ? A smart business man he is not … just chips on his shoulder from a Con Com enforcement orders !
And Mr. Baker … who endured a lot but had at least had a spine to come forward to correct a wrong. Are you just a pawn put up by Nanna & Pappa ? You see Mr. Baker … a long time ago they thought supporting the current BOS would get them somewhere. Unfortunately, our current BOS is too smart and honest for that … how many Porketta’s have they shown up for …. I don’t believe they like that taste in their mouth but others do like our Sheriff and Dr. Jenny

A fresh perspective on the upcoming Election

I struggled with reposting this but felt I had to...who ever wrote it has obviously lived in town a long time...I was not to thrilled with the cheap shots at Charlie...that's not called for...I was portrayed as a puppet...but, my hope is that it will generate some debate going into the elections. I especially thought the "Ask yourself why you are running ?" is an important question...let's discuss it.
Dear Anonymous, It sounds like you might be a PERFECT candidate!! Why aren't you running???
Hi,
I am very interested in meeting the candidates - objectively. I have seen the signs and wish I knew more about each of them. Reading things that seem to be baggage (from years gone by) just doesn't help. I know that our town is very political and people certainly do have memories and opinions based upon experience, but can't we move forward and let the candidate's views speak for themselves. Joyce D.
Just to inform the public that does care to hear the truth for a change, I never asked Mr. Baker to run for the position, in fact, I begged him not to run. I told him of the many people that I truly cared about and how they were so hurt, while trying to do what was best for this town. The names are too many to mention, but believe me,ask any one of them if the $800.00 that they were paid...was worth it.
I would also like to comment on what was said about the people that have been our guests before. You are wrong once again, the current board members have all been invited here, and for different reasons too. I am sorry that perhaps you have been left off of this list...but I can tell you something, you are one of the few... our home has been open to many, many people from this and other towns too.
It saddens me to think that because of our good fortune that people no longer approve of what we do.
BUT, I beat Breast Cancer, 12 years ago and will beat this internal bleeding issue I have been dealing with for the last year and a half, and not you nor anyone else will stop me, from being who I am.

Of course people from the other blog are trying to take this site down the "dark path"..there was a comment left that began "The only thing the twinponders are interested in"...I rejected it because it was name calling and insults. The only way any comment like that is going to be posted, is if it is signed by the author with a valid email..can't hide behind anonymous anymore...the comment involved me and was complete BS..I have lived here for (6) years..my friends the Mercure's would give you the shirt off their back...you can't fake that...some people I think find it hard to believe that (2) people would give so much of themselves...there has to be a hook...there isn't
So much for being a positive alternative. I guess this is the blog that censors!
Truth is hard to find with all the spin.
Interesting reaction to my recent post isn’t it ? All of a sudden, we are everyone’s friend for the election now ? No sense in alienating anyone so let’s just include everyone … well said. Question … Do you think that’s what it takes to run the Town ? At some point, you must take a honest stand even when there’s a minority present in Town which doesn’t agree with you. You know … do the right thing Bob
Lesson 1: The tail doesn’t wag the dog. ( At least our current BOS understands this ! )
Our current BOS needs candidates that will help them and not be distractions ! I watch them on TV, and they look worn out at times … a result of their commitment to our Town no doubt. At the hearings at MES, it would have been nice for see more public support for them vs. Camp Mary. ( I shook each of their hands and said “Thank You” … I could see how that lifted their spirit during that critical time ) Let’s vote in candidates that will aid them in keeping the Town on its’ current positive course … not detours back to the good ol’days. I’ve lived in those days and they were definitely not good as the natives might want you to think.
BTW …Its’ refreshing to see Lenny has used spell check this time on his good ol’ campaign billboard for Laura and Poulin …. Gee that was a revelation on who he was going to support come April.
Concerning the recent posts :
The “fabricator” doesn’t know better as Mr. Gump once said “stupid is as stupid does “. You see the spoon fed baby food from Mother Mary only comes in one flavor. I still can’t get past that devoted Catholics are suppose to turn the other cheek ? I believe we are in the Lenten season ? Unfortunately, he will end up like the rest before him. Some advice to the “fabricator”, go talk to Chuckles and see how information was twisted and distorted to him during his last bid for a selectman seat.
Yes … we must move forward but we can’t forget about the past. You can’t change the spots on a leopard so we must remember the baggage attached. It speaks volume about the character of these candidates and their fortitude to work for the interest of the Town and not their private agendas. Isn’t this an important factor when we elect our US Presidents ?
Yes … the blobmaster is spinning his web of hatred to the Town which he no longer lives in. I believe the ex-prodigal son was on the School Committee years ago when the water problem was first documented. I guess he was just devoting all his time into his “other” RI hobby. Again, the current BOS inherited this problem from the school. I believe Mr. Savage stated this at the last BOS meeting, and that the water problem is getting better. Kudos to Mr. Petrowicz for all his time and effort involved into correcting this problem. ( and yes Mr. Petrowicz … I do understand what “levels” meant from watching prior BOS meetings on TV … sorry Mr. Laura nice try )
Papa ( I prefer Papa) clearly understands he’s no puppeteer. I guess I had it all wrong like his devoted support of his prodigal son ( no … not the blobmaster ) our ex-tree warden. ( BTW … it would have been nice too see a public apology to the BOS on that one seeing that the board did the right thing in that situation )
Lesson # 2: Apologize to the residents when you make a mistake … we are all human. ( I have witness our current BOS many times making them to us … very honorable indeed ! )
Abe will apologize to those that might take offense to my comments, and will offer an olive branch to Nana and Papa during this Lenten season. I will also give them a big “Thank You” for their work on the new Senior Center. Who knows ? maybe one day we’ll share a cup of coffee over there when the dust settles.
I do agree with Mr. Baker that the word “Twin Pond” , “Twin Ponders” etc… is very offensive to residents old and new. The last time I checked, I don’t believe the sub-division was annexed from the Town of Millville
Lesson # 3: We are all residents of the Town of Millville !
A. Lincoln
To our newest contributor A. Lincoln...personally, I find your posts to be the flavor I like best...straight forward and well thought out. I hope you contribute often. This is what the town needs to hear. In the past year there has been much intown sniping and nonone has forgotten some of the harsh words spoken...some of them very personal. I'd be a hypocrit if I didn't come clean and say I supported the change at the police station, I was/am a supporter of the BOS (it's documented) and have made many friends while living in Millville...my friends know that they are my friends through thick and thin...they also know I don't stand in line at the 12 item or less grocery line if I have 13 items in my basket. Rules are rules. I say "please", "thank you" and "your welcome". I address people I don't know as "sir" & "mam". I have taught my kids the same. I don't know Charlie Poulin. I've met him once. He seemed like a nice guy. I certainly don't view him as an enemy. That's not who I am. But, if I find he is not being above board, and this is a personal vendetta, I will call him out on it.
I hope after the election we get to meet Abe (I'm not saying we haven't, i just haven't figured out who you are yet)...please keep posting !! I can take it...
"Censors" is a little strong...I would say this site is not going to let you personally insult somebody and name call because you don't have the "geological attributes" (you'll figure it out) to sign your name or say it face to face. If you want to go down the dark path, sign it with your name and provide an email to verify you are who you are, and then we'll consider posting it...name calling is so not what this site is about...ever occur to you that kids read these sites ?? Hello ??
To Whom It May Concern:
I'm sorry that you feel so bothered by my running for a seat on the Board of Selectmen...but do you have to keep stealing my signs?
Kind of childish, don't you think?
Karin Furno
A.Lincoln, I have to agree with you about a lot of things. However, what apology do you think was owed to the BOS for what happened to the tree warden? I'm not sure if people know the "REAL" outcome of that situation...
Maybe the exact details will never be known to the residents because of rules and laws that the BOS follows to protect the town. ( It would have been nice for the regime under Ms. Dean’s thumb to have followed the same course with the “bus” incident ) What we should remember about this … . The ex-tree warden / fire re-appointment incident happened a long time before Timmy was removed from his dictatorship. Based on the facts surrounding the Police hearings, the BOS did the right thing to protect our Town and its’ residents. I am sure that these sound decisions are not a fluke of our current BOS. Character is not an attribute that happens over night. Since they have been elected and re-elected to the board, they have always made sound decisions for the best interest of our Town. I am sure that they made one as well in this situation. An apology would have been a classy thing to do as well as appropriate. ( Lesson # 2 )
You don’t remember the tongue lashing from Papa & Nana, Lenny, Pare over the course of their refusal to re-appoint the Chief’s son to the Fire Department. How could we forget Pare’s famous “Luftwafer” statement to our current BOS, and Mr. Petrowicz’s response to it. “Sorry Mr. Pare, I have never flown German fighter planes and neither has the board I am sure “ (You can’t make this stuff up ) Maybe I’ll ask the executive secretary for this taped meeting before they destroy it … definitely a Town classic.
As their prodigal son, I am sure they were privy to the facts behind the scene. It is a well known fact that Papa had been contracted out to work with him removing down trees from time to time. I’m glad he never re-injured his injury on the tax payer dime while double dipping.
You asked and I told … can’t change facts and can’t change ones’ baggage. Maybe some day, I can ask Papa for a heated debate on that one … of course over a cup of coffee.
A. Lincoln
Well Mr A. Lincoln I am glad that you have a great point of view and have brought this to many people's eye. I just want the "Town's" best interest at hand from who may be elected this election. But as for the "Tree-Warden/Fire Fighter I too think that he deserves an apology or something. Both jobs require time from his family and are to ensure the "Safety" of our town. As far as whom is hired to help ensure the tree is removed quickly and safety is none of our business as long as it was done safely and our town's people were not in danger while it was being removed. When there is a tree down we should be thankful that they too have left a family to help and that it was done safely and in a timely manner. I do have one more question though how is the new Tree-Warden working out for us?
P.S. I think that the web-master here is doing a great job and this site is GREAT!!!!! Great Job...
I'll say agian Mr. Abe, Contact me any time your willing to come out of the wood work and I'll gladly have a discussion with you. I don't have a olive brance for you as those tree don't grow here. You see I do have apple, peach.cherry and pear tress here in my yard. Best way I can describe myself to you is that I don't need any props as I am always willing to have coffee and a good discussion whith any intelegent person.
As far as the presant BOS, I give them a ton of credit for things they have done But, they are human and have made mistakes, don't we all?? One happened to involve my so called prodigal son who by the way spent almost as much time at my house with my son as did my son at his house growing up. He's no differant then my children are, when they are right they are right but when they are wrong the rath of MEE comes down on them. Just ask any of my children or thier real friends !!!! So fell free to contact mee anytime and maybe we should Bring Old George Wasington with us. Pardon my grama and spelling as that was never my strong suit. Dick Mercure
Wow-whoever wrote a "fresh prospective on the uncoming election" sure has great insight!!!
Consider this: In the world of politics there are two recognized parties: The Democrats and The Republicans--After reading that article it is clear to me that Millville also has two parties: The Ryancans and the Independecats.
Make sense???
Dear Anonymous,
I think you layed it down. Unless I'm wrong, that is what this whole election is going to be about. Is the town ready to move on or do they want more of the same ??
To clarify,
Do an official close of "Ryanville" or let them back in..
First of all, I don’t believe we need to apologize to anyone in the Fire Department, Police, MEMA, Armed Forces, etc when pulled away from their families … we should say “THANK YOU”.
I would like to respond to the comment about who cares about how the tree services are rendered as long as they get done. Hey, what a great way to do business … makes so much sense that we should be doing this in every town department. It’ll bring us back to the glorious days of Millville under the regime of Mother Mary and the rest of the rats. Better make sure you have a Pided Piper available when you can’t handle the taste in your mouth !
Yes … the tree warden position needs a better candidate. I believe Mr. Petrowicz has taken on to much but his effort is still appreciated. Speaks volumes about elected positions vs. appointed positions. We have all heard numerous times from our current BOS that it is hard to get people involved into running for positions. They even sent information out at MES with information about Boards and positions to spark interest. Maybe this is one position which needs to be appointed so the BOS could contract out the service.
Mr. Baker in the famous words of Homey D. Clown “ Homey don’t play that ! “ I’ll have to decline your offer and end it with a “ No Thank you “ I’m glad to hear that readership is up as well. Maybe residents are starting to figure out there’s always to sides to every story.
Lesson # 5: There’s always two sides to every story. One needs to stop and listen to each.
I would also like to dedicate this song to my pal Papa :
Just two good ol' boys …
Never meanin' no harm …
Beats all you never saw been in trouble with the law since the day they was born …
Straighten the curves …
Flattenin' the hills …
Someday the mountain might get 'em but the law never will …
Makin' there way the only way they know how …
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow …
Just two good old boys …
Wouldn't change if they could …
Fighten the system like a two modern day Robin Hood …
A. Lincoln
A. Lincoln is wrong. There are three sides to every story. "his", "hers" and the truth.
I personally find A.L's insights opinionated rather than factual and insulting those as he remains masked! I too have a long history and many memories about this town. The town has moved past many troubling times and no doubt will do so again.
Abe is onto something regarding Papa-Bear.
No doubt his son and the ex TreeWarden have been pals for years, but I think it comes down to dollars and sense. Papa works quite a bit for the TW, plowing snow and what have you, so it would be a natural connection for his support.
Above all whatever might help line Papa's pockets with green will always be the way for him to go.
Makes you wonder doesn't it?
Happy St. Patty's Day Irish Eyes,
I don't think it has anything to do with money. They view the TW as one of their own. You stick up for one of your cubs, human nature.
Enjoy the corned beef & cabbage !!
I can't believe that a smiling irish eyes gal could make such comments about another human being!!!! Most all the irish people I am acquainted with are very positive and do not spend their pressure moments of life by slandering their neighbor...Shame on you "smilingirisheyes"----
To Smilingirisheyes: Correction: I intended my comment to read: "precious moments" not "pressure" moments.
It is my belief that the moments we have on this earth are indeed to be considered "precious" and can be snatched away from us in the wink of an eye (even a smiling irish eye)Conclusion: don't squander these "precious" moments
with slanderous/ugly judgements of your neighbor's behavoir.Good advice may well be to take the wood from your own"smilingirisheyes" before attempting to remove the chip from your brother's eye. St.Patrick would be proud!!!!!
