Election Results - Poulin & Furno Voted in !!

Congratulations to Charlie Poulin & Karin Furno. It was an election where all the candidates took the high road and I was proud to be part of it. I'm sure John Laura would agree, we will support both Charlie & Karin and hope they continue to take Millville forward. The picture to the right is of the Laura's. This picture really captures the spirit of this past election.

I would like to personaly thank all candidates for thier interest in town affairs. Now that the people have spoken, hopefully all will bring positive thinking to thier various boards, even the write in winners have a duty to those who took the time to write thier names in. Once more, Congrats and Thank You : Dick Mercure

Way to go Charlie! Old fashion hard work, knocking on every door always reaps its rewards. I am sure next time it will work for John Laura. I wish the new board luck and hope that business as usual will be questioned. I guess the defeated neighbors Baker, Stanley, & Milliken along with Mrs. Mercure, who is rumored to having walked out of the Municipal center prior to the counting, will have a full year to work and spin for next year. Please stay active, don’t fade. It is worth its weight in the entertainment value.

Congratulations to all our newly elected officials …

It still amazes me how naïve people are in thinking this election will create shock waves in the operation of our town. Maybe some of the distracters or “townies” failed basic mathematics, but the last time I counted our current BOS still holds the majority vote. The other website is touting this as some type of major victory ( maybe for their personal agendas ). Again, I hope all our newly elected officials are ready for the hard work which lies ahead. I look forward to seeing what our new freshmen selectman bring to the table now they will be walking in our current BOS shoes … only time will tell.

I don't believe the folks in town are naive in their understanding of the makeup of the BOS. I think with the election you have added two new voices to the board, that hopefully will offer another set of views to the board, and maybe open some dialog that the whole town will benefit from.

Dear Stan,

If you want to post insults, your at the wrong website. The only way I'll post them is if you send your real name and give me a valid email.

No room for insults here or the cowards who leave them.

To Abe & Mike,

I hope you two will continue to post here. You both have a good grasp of town history, the good and the bad.

Having some time to reflect. Monday was no different. The election was a very civil affair and I was proud to be part of it. I watched the selectmen's meeting last night and would agree with Abe, I think it's a whole different ballgame when you strap them on. I also agree with Mike, I think it's a good thing to have (2) new voices in there. I think having (5) members is real important. More opinions the better. I just hope everyone contributes.

I would be remiss if I didn't address the "ugly" parts of Monday.
It appears the discourse at town hall may be warranted. If there was anyone who shouldn't have been anywhere near the ballot's, it was a person that was on it.

Sooner or later, some will get that anybody who lives in Millville, and pays taxes, is a citizen of Millville. Some behaved badly Monday...you know who you are.

Millville will benefit when that type of behavior goes away. It was ugly to watch. Cold hearted to say the least.

Did anyone watch the selectman’s meeting last night ? Furno showed she wasn’t afraid to ask questions … can’t say the same for Poulin. Charlie just looked over-whelmed … maybe he was just scared of the camera ... stage fright maybe ? If he didn’t finally say “aye” an hour into the meeting, we wouldn’t even know he was there. For those “distracters” who pick on Petrowicz for not wearing a tie and Baker for wearing sweats … Charlie looked like he was plumbing 2 minutes before the meeting …Kudos to Savage and McCutcheon as remaining our vice-chair and chair.

I say we give both new members some time to catch up...I'm sure it has to be overwhelming.

I am comfortable a month or two in your perspective changes. Ask Deval.

While campaigning, Charlie claimed his candidacy had nothing to do with getting at the McCutcheons or doing the Ryan's bidding. Certainly that type of agenda benefits a few.

I for one will take him at his word. Charlie is a successful business man and has knowledge to offer. I've shook his hand and looked him in the eye.

Hey folks , Cut the new members of the various boards a little slack. It should take them time to get all info before making statements, that doesn't mean not being involved and making comments and when needed voting in the best interest of the town. Good Luck All !!!!. By the way, there were no losers, hopefully all newcomers to town politics will stand up and be counted when MILLVILLE is in need of concerned candidates. Thanks Dick Merecure

Heh Townie,

Thanks for showing so much class. The good news is I'm comfortable you don't speak for Charlie, John or their wives. Truly fine people.

But in the future, if you don't have anything good to say, take it to the other site. That is unless you are willing to leave me your name and a valid email address. Then post at will.

Does anyone know why the town clerk was allowed anywhere near the ballots ? Especially when her name was on the ballot in a contested race ? We won't even get into the other shennigans that went on regarding tabulating votes. If I was Mrs Milliken, I would at least ask the question. For such a simple ballot, it seemed like it took an awful long time to tabulate.

I would gather to say that it took so long to count the votes due to a large amount of write-ins. (this is usually the case) As far as the town clerk role, every three years this situation occurs. In the past the old town clerk and her husband would tally the votes. As I usnderstand it the present town clerk called in two members of the Board of Registrars to monitor/witness the events of the evening. This is a first that I know of... I could be wrong but I'd say she went beyond to be sure things was above board. Mrs. Millikin has every right to ask those questions and she should if she has serious concerns.

Hmmm...there were 9 votes for Mr. Tympanick and 12 for the tree warden. I can see where that would eat up alot of time. I recall seeing Mrs. Dean walking around, but no one else. I was not aware she was a member of the Board of Registrars.

It's a shame we haven't changed the locks at town hall yet. I've heard there is a dog that has been seen from time to time in town hall. Hopefully if the state decides to take a peak, the dog hasn't eaten the ballots.

Mike said...

There were probably other small numbers of write ins as well, like 1 or two names for an open slot etc, but they still need to be tabulated.

I think the TC did the town a great service by involving the registrars in the process. Eliminates many of the issues. Mrs Dean has been a long time member of the Board of Registrars, certainly back to the days that Harriet F. Breton was Clerk.

Harriet may be the longest serving clerk in town history! (Maybe some of the other historians might want to chime in here).

Word has it that Mike just turned 50...man that is old. Remember, the truth will set you free - and fiber is your friend.

Based on the Official Millville Website, the election results show that there were a total of 59 write in votes which all have to be accounted for. You also have to take into account how many groups of counters there were. Mrs. Dean is on the BOR along with Mrs. Finn who ended up tallying the votes after Mrs. Mercure left abruptly.

Seems like the Wamplers have toned down their attacks, but their mission is very transparent. I find it amusing that some can be bashed while others are told to leave there email and name to have posts left?? I hope this is a level playing field!

When personal insults fly, they are moderated. Those that do the insulting are the only ones who know when their comments don't get posted.

I'm on record here questioning the town clerk's judgement Monday night. Seems black and white to me...not Gray. It's not for me to decide. I'm sure it will be looked at.

I've counted votes for the past 5 years. 59 write in votes is not time consuming. That's spin.

I am crushed that Mr. Baker lost the election. Please, please BB wrie something to make me feel good. Are you OK? Please don't be depressed. I want you to run next year. Will you run next year?
You are such a fine man. You should be selectman. You deserve a chance.
Regards,
Stan Wampler
