As some of you well know, the Blackstone Millville District School System has to fight every year for funding to educate our kids properly. The Commonwealth measures what communities spend each year per student. Seems to me to be a prudent way of seeing how you actually stack up. You would think it would eliminate the argument about there being to much "administrative waste" and other weak arguments. Unfortunately it doesn't. It's my sad duty to report we are below average on what we spend per student ($6,298 per student)...to put it in perspective, Cambridge spends $17,459 per student, Framingham is $10,239, Marlboro is $7,235 (my hometown, and NOBODY speaks English, there is not a single Frenchman on French Hill, it's really sad)...
The good news is our schools do a hell of a job...every student passes MCAS. We have a world class music department. We have sports teams that compete at a high level. We should all take some pride in that. Unfortunately people equate success with over spending. It's a battle every year come budget time. I hope, via this website, to keep folks informed about what is happening regarding the education of our children. To me that should be the Districts #1 priority. You reap what you sow.
In the spirit of supporting our school district, I was able to donate some computer equipment (servers & storage) to the BMR School System. I was happy to do it and I hope they will take me up on my offer to donate more. What they really could use is more man power. A 2 man show supporting all the IT needs of this school district is a mammoth job. Kudos to Brad Monroe & Phil Toupin. You want to talk about stress.
Our school system needs your support. Don't depend on your neighbor. Please research it at http://profiles.doe.mass.edu/ppx.aspx . It will be an eye opener.
