Why does the SC look like an import from the New Orleans FEMA program?

Why does the SC look like an overflow housing unit for the Massachusetts Department of Correction.

Considering the value of the grant and all the "FREE STUFF" that
has been procured, What is the final Cost of the SC? Please tell me, I am considering a significant donation, but need my questions answered. Thank you.

All of these efforts ( ...and I have omitted many... ) were accomplished through hard work, volunteerism, determination, and community PRIDE.

Our community has always risen to any of the many challenges the Town has faced, as a COMMUNITY.

Just one small example: The Fire Station was built for around $20K "1970 dollars". Its' initial value was over $100K (once again 1970 dollars). It was a great return on the investment. Note also, that no TAX money (grants, property taxes, or federal money) went into the construction and outfitting of the station.

If you look back, Millville has long been at the lower end of the so called "wealth" index.

Somehow though, - a credit to all Millvillites - they have overcome huge obstacles, and prevailed.

That is why, even though myself and many others might no longer live within the 4.5 square miles, we still can call ourselves "Millvillites".

I don't agree with the first two posts here. I think they are way off the mark.

Community involvement, while maybe new to the blogmaster here, and others is no stranger to Millville.

I look at those involved in this project that comprise two factions.

First off we have some folks who remind us often about all that they have done. From my memory, while they have seen or been on the sidelines of other community projects, they tend to take credit for things that they should not - you know who you are, you are always pumping your own accomplishments up. Always reminding us of all of your "hard work". I guess you never learned about humility, have you? Maybe you need that positive reinforcement.

Then there are the second group of people involved. This by far is not their first, nor their most difficult project. They have been around probably for most of their lives, involved in such things as political office, the churches and affiliated organizations, the library and many other activities too many to mention.

They are the folks that ran whist parties for John Sitnik and Mike Logan to build the town's first Fire Station.

They ran Minstrel shows in Old Town Hall to showcase the communities talent and spirit, and raise money for excellent causes.

On that fateful night of 2/27/69 they banded together to keep the community together, and plan for d St. Augustine's to rise from the ashes of a devastating fire.

Even if you were not Catholic, you were involved, and our friends at St. Johns opened their doors for our funerals and weddings during that time of great loss. The town and the town fathers did their part to by letting us worship in upper town hall.

Some of these folks also brought the first Library to Millville, after a son of Millville - Dr. Lalor - made the initial gift to the Town.

These folks also lead the drive to build a state of the art modern Elementary school - FOR YOUR KIDS - (Their children having already grown and moved on).

They have also seen the long hoped for and planned St. Monica's hall come to be.

You won't see these folks taking any credit for this hard work. It is not their nature. They will let these "youngins" do all the spouting and attention seeking.

However, it is the people who have done the yeoman's work in the trenches that should be congratulated, and recognized.

As an "old timer" I know who they are, and I continue to thank them for their hard work on behalf of my Town.

I heard a comment made yesterday "people in Afonso Estates, in their big houses think they own the town". I am so sorry people feel that way, especially the person who made the comment, I/we are so puzzled by it. The town pleads with people to come forward and volunteer their time. Open positions still remain. We are trying to do our part and "fit in" and we are chastised for it. I can assure the "old timers", we are not looking to take over, just trying to help. And like it or not, we are now citizens of Millville. And by the way, we're not the only new neighborhood in town. The division that has been created needs to be fixed. Can't we all work together ?

The Senior Center is truely "taking shape" and Millvile residents have much to be proud of --Unfortunately, there are always those residents who just can't give in to positive thinking and continue to send out negative signals...I ask myself WHY?? Is it so difficult to yield to the hard work and endeavors of a dedicated committee -who works tirelessly to see this come to reality.?.It has been a long time in coming as happens repeatedly in this town, and it may very well be attributed to the lack of encouragement affirmation and support of those groups of residents who have difficulty in acknowledging this dedication because of "who they are" -Its no wonder that townspeople hesitate to come forward and work on committees/ These attitudes are not very complimentary and can be downright discouraging..-I say, get beyond those personality walls that stifle progress - learn to love thy neighbor and try to concede to their good intentions on behalf of the town...You will soon see the bright and happy future that could be ours if we learn to step over the nonsense of it all and work togther.
